I'm Usama, a civil engineer who likes the whole arc of a project: on site with the scanner in the morning, checking the model against the survey in the afternoon. Sono Usama, un ingegnere civile a cui piace tutto l'arco di un progetto: la mattina in sito con il laser scanner, il pomeriggio a confrontare il modello con il rilievo.

I graduated in Sustainable Building Engineering from Sapienza Università di Roma in October 2025, with an exchange semester in civil engineering at Arkansas State University in the United States. My thesis looked at how Low Impact Development and Green Infrastructure (permeable pavements, bioretention cells, green roofs) change the way an urban catchment responds to a storm. Mi sono laureato in Sustainable Building Engineering alla Sapienza Università di Roma nell'ottobre 2025, con un semestre di scambio in ingegneria civile alla Arkansas State University, negli Stati Uniti. La mia tesi ha studiato come il Low Impact Development e le infrastrutture verdi (pavimentazioni drenanti, bioritenzione, tetti verdi) cambiano la risposta di un bacino urbano a un evento di pioggia.
After graduating I worked as a junior design engineer in an engineering studio in Arezzo, surveying buildings with the Trimble TX8 laser scanner and turning point clouds into drawings and bills of quantities. Today I'm a hydraulic modelling engineer at Progeo Engineering, simulating flood events and river behaviour with HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, Civil 3D and QGIS. Dopo la laurea ho lavorato come progettista junior in uno studio di ingegneria ad Arezzo, rilevando edifici con il laser scanner Trimble TX8 e trasformando le nuvole di punti in elaborati e computi metrici. Oggi sono ingegnere modellista idraulico presso Progeo Engineering, dove simulo eventi di piena e comportamento fluviale con HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, Civil 3D e QGIS.
I grew up speaking Urdu at home and English at school, and learned Italian in Rome. The mix helps at work more than you might expect: a lot of engineering is translating between people who describe the same site in different vocabularies. Sono cresciuto parlando urdu a casa e inglese a scuola, e ho imparato l'italiano a Roma. Al lavoro serve più di quanto si pensi: buona parte dell'ingegneria è tradurre tra persone che descrivono lo stesso sito con vocabolari diversi.
